Around 2 PM, Febuary 5th, a Deputy with the Coweta County Sheriffs Office was behind a black Chevy Tahoe travelling west on east highway 34 just before Thomas Crossroads. The Deputy knew the vehicle, and it’s occupant were wanted on a warrant.

Before the Deputy could even activate his lights, the Tahoe sped up, blowing the  red light at Thomas Crossroads and driving at a high rate of speed down East Highway 34 towards Newnan.

Units from both the CCSO and NPD hurried to take positions along East Highway 34, with one Deputy deploying spike strips at the intersection with Shenandoah Blvd.

The suspect continued down Highway 34, speeding through the red light at Sullivan Road and passing traffic in the Median. Pursing units backed off the suspect hoping that he’d ease up. Once he reached Shenandoah Blvd. he came to the deputy with spike strips, but by running over traffic cones was able to avoid them.

Due to traffic, and the fact that officers had fallen back in an attempt to slow the driver down, he was able to make a few moves that allowed him to get out of sight of units just long enough to loose them.

While units canvased the area, the original Deputy which had knowledge of the suspect and the investigation involving his warrant, informed other units that he would be heading back to a location in Corn Crib Subdivision off Millard Farmer Rd.

Units started that way to check the address. Initially when they arrived and drove past the residence, the suspect’s Tahoe was not there, however within seconds the suspect, and his vehicle, were seen turning into the driveway. Units preformed a felony stop on the vehicle in the driveway, taking the suspect into custody.

Eric D Richard, 51, of Louisiana, was arrested and booked into the Coweta County Jail on the following charges.

Fleeing / Attempting to Elude Police Officer – Felony
Reckless Driving – Misdemeanor
Suspended / Revoked License – Misdemeanor

As of posting, he remains in the Coweta County Jail without bond.
