A 20 year old suspect has been arrested as a result of his September 11th early morning crime spree that cultivated in a vehicle being set on fire off Greenville St.
It started around 3:30 AM the morning of September 11th when E911 received a call of a possible structure fire in the 200 block of Greenville St. Upon arriving NFD units were presented with a vehicle fire behind the structure.
NPD units that had responded to assist the fire department soon became aware of a vehicle in a nearby used car lot that had an active alarm. While investigating that alarm NPD would go on to find a number of vehicles across several neighboring car lots had been broken into, some with their gas caps removed in an apparent attempt to steal gas.

As a result of the NPD’s investigation the Fire Marshall was requested at the scene that night. On September 18th, 2023 the Newnan Police Department posted the following to their Facebook Page asking for the public’s help.
As a result of their investigation, the Newnan Police Department made the following arrest.
Ignacio Sanchez Lopez, 20, of Newnan was arrested and booked into the Coweta County Jail on the following charges:
Arson – 2nd Degree, a Felony
Entering Automobile or Other Motor Vehicle, a Felony
Criminal Attempt to Commit a Misdemeanor, a Misdemeanor
2 Counts of Criminal Damage to Property – 1st Degree, a Felony
7 Counts of Entering Auto to Commit Felony, a Felony
Lopez was denied bond by Magistrate Judge Robert Stokely at his first appearance and so remains in custody.
