Just after 8 AM this morning members of the Newnan Police Department were dispatched to the One Life Fitness at 460 Newnan Crossing Bypass ( Ashley Park Shopping Center ) after E911 received a call from a male at the location who stated that a suspect had broken the lock on his locker and had then left in a vehicle when the caller confronted him. The caller stated that the suspect was a black male that left in a white BMW.
Officers arrived on the scene to speak with the victim. By 8:30 AM, they were able to view security footage of the parking lot leading to a more detailed Be on The Lookout ( BOLO ) for a newer model white BMW 4-door passenger vehicle, dark rims, and drive-out tag with a BMW tag frame. The vehicle was driven by 2 black males, young, possibly teenagers.
Officers also informed dispatch that they’d confirmed that multiple lockers were broken into with credit cards and other items taken. The suspects had also already attempted to use one of those credit cards at the Kroger located at Thomas Crossroads.
The BOLO was transmitted to agencies within and surrounding the county.
While the exact number of victims is unknown at this time, we do know that over next hour at least 2 more victims would notify officers that they’d had items stolen.
Carrollton Vehicle Pursuit
Just before 9:45 AM, Coweta County E911 was contacted by Carroll County dispatch that units had made contact with the vehicle in the BOLO in downtown Carrollton and were currently in a vehicle pursuit with it.
A short time later they informed E911 that their units had lost sight of the vehicle as it was heading south on US Alt 27 just past the Carroll County Jail.
Over the next hour, units from both Carroll and Coweta scoured the area between Newnan and Carrollton for the vehicle but were unsuccessful.
As of the publishing of this article, the suspects are believed to remain at large.
Possible Connection
Editor’s Note: The following information is unconfirmed and circumstantial in nature, the reader should take this into account.
On July 19th, 2024 the Newnan Police Department posted a BOLO on their facebook page requesting the publics assistance in identifying an individual that was wanted for a theft earlier in the month at the Walmart in Newnan.
The suspect’s description ( seen in the photo ) as well as the vehicle he’s seen getting into, a white BMW with a drive-out tag, both seem to match the description of today’s BOLO closely.
The Newnan Police Department has not made any statements regarding any possible connection between the two incidents however.
